Game Mechanics

EVE Online is a Single Server MMORPG and like any game there are rules to follow and game mechanics to understand to ensure you not only stay alive but stay alive long enough to get a grip of how it all works and enjoy the most pleasure out of playing the game.

In EVE there is one Universe with thousands of stars within Star Systems each of which are assigned a security level which provides a regulatory structure of some kind - even if it is 0.0 space which means it is totally unregulated. These security levels indicate where you can go to remain relatively safe and areas where you take your life in your hands just by visiting.

In the world of EVE you can be just about anything you wish. A business entrepeneur, an industrial magnate, perhaps a shrewd marketing executive, a mercenary and even a ruthless pirate.

The rules of the game are fairly 'flexible' in that the interaction between players is conducted in a 'sandbox' environment where virtually anything goes. So long as you stay within the guidelines that CCP insist are followed then anything else is fair game. You can steal from other players, perpetrate scams, run amok and destroy Space Stations (POS's) and generally anything that gains you either 'a really, really BAD reputation' or the plaudits of your peers and possibly both.

Plus you can form player groups and battle against other player groups (Corporations and/or Alliances) - some of these battles are conducted on a modest scale and some in totally massive fleet battles.

Even if this doesn't appeal you can be a complete 'loner' and run mining operations, missions, NPC killing, trading, exploring and much more without the assistance of any other player. A bit risky at times but you can successfully run your own game operations with little or no interaction with other players. However, probably the most fun you will get out of the game is by being involved with other players or groups and gaining the benefits that can provide - not just socially but in helping you progress and keeping you 'safe'.

Presented here are a series of guides - from basic startup guides to more involved and technical tutorials - to help you find your feet within EVE. We will point you in the right direction to find the useful utilities that will help you organise your activites.
