Gallente Station Tour - Medical Facilities
The Medical facilities on station are designed into two specific areas.
The first area and usually the largest is for the indigenous people who live and work on the station, moon or planet below. They are given medical treatment for minor issues from cuts and scrapes, broken bones to serious diseases, virus/bacterial infections and major accidents.
The second area is for the Capsuleer's although smaller in comparison it is much more important and treated as such. In today's tour of the facilities we will be looking at the Capsuleer side and what is provided them by our Medical personnel.
At this point I must warn you that you will see and hear some things that you may find very difficult to accept.
A slightly different ideology is used by the Capsuleer's in comparison to the rest of the world as we see it. So at this point in the tour are there any questions?
Yes my name is Ron Hunting. I am a reporter for the Planetside. Are audio and video records permitted in there?
Yes Mr Hunting You may make any recordings that you wish but once again I would caution you that there will be some things that your audience may find disturbing.
Very well then lets get started.
I am Doctor Stevenson and this is the Medical facilities on Gallente Duripant VII Moon 6 Federal Navy Academy School. Not all facilities are equal. This facility has the ability to insert recruits. Inserting personnel is a time consuming and lengthy operation. So there are only a limited legally registered number of these insertion points. After that we have the cloning department, upgrades, transfer/storage and the last department extraction or termination.
The termination department will undoubtedly be the most disturbing part of the tour today. And today you will be able to meet a Capsuleer prior to them entering the program.
Umm Yes?
Yes Mrs Mary Ford Gallente Prime News. I talked to the Captain on my transport ship but he wouldn't come out of his cabin for the interview. I chatted with him over the intercom system. Are all Capsuleer's like that?
Yes they are all like that but its more of a fact that he couldn't come out not that we wouldn't come out. For you see the Capsuleer's are imbedded in a small mechanical biological pod are cannot leave once they go in. At least not at this time anyways.
Wait are you saying that all these people on the station and not one of them is a Capsuleer?
Yes that is correct. We have maintenance, security, medical and administration personnel all over the place but not one Capsuleer has ever walked among us. They have chosen a different path to walk so to speak.
Uh are those the clone vats?
And you are?
Oh sorry. Lui O'Hollard Couster Daily. And are those the clone vats?
Yes those are the clone vats. DNA samples are taken from the original participant and a clone is made, stored and upgraded as so desired by the Capsuleer. And speaking of participant here is our next Capsuleer. Sesan Sebastian. He has already been through all the scans and tests...
Hi everyone I am under quarantine at the moment hence the see through wall. You are the last people I will get to see and actually talk with so pardon me if I seem a little excited.
You might be wondering what possessed me to become a Capsuleer. Well I had a relative who was into archeology and then became a Capsuleer so I figured what the heck, you know, I mean my life was good I had a good job, daily grind and then retired with an average pension but I wanted to travel and not just in a transport but really travel, go wherever, do whatever, walk amongst the stars. So I went into the recruiting channels and poof here I am so that's me and my story.
Heh umm sorry bit of the jitters.
Yes that's okay Mr Sesan., now then. Are there any questions for Sebastian before he takes his last walk, breath, and last everything else.
Ron Hunting...Will we be able to talk to him after the procedure?
Assuming he wants to talk to you yes that could be arranged...
I would really like that. Yes I think that would be a good idea. Okay well Good bye everyone nice talking to you.
Ahh...are all Capsuleer's like that, so up beat?
No Lui its just nerves. Some are morose and not very chatty. Others scared and put on a brave face. They are all different in little ways.
Say Doc a quick question?
Yes Mr. Hunting....
Well you said those were the vats back there. But those are nothing like the vats I am used to seeing. They weren't the usual glass tubes with people inside. So could you please explain.
Sure the clones are grown inside the pods. So the two of them never are separated even in transfers and storage. The clone stays inside the pod. You are used to seeing the planet vats for people. We have those on the people side of the facilities. Not in this area. Its more cost effective this way.
Imagine that we stored the Capsuleer clone in a separate vat. Then they decided to activate that clone. Well before a memory transfer could happen we have to get a pod transfer and insert the body, seal everything up, ensure all augments were attached then do the memory transfer.
Now memory transfers have to be made fast so as to imprint onto the host body. Otherwise problems occur during the transfer, split personalities develop, the Capsuleer goes crazy. Some recover, Most don't.
Are you saying Capsuleer's can transfer their minds at will?
No not at will. More at request or for example when required.
Intercom on...Pod 82...
WHAT THE HELL BLOODY...
Intercom off.. Okay he's really not happy. Volume one quarter - Intercom on Pod 82.
Get me to my ship. Hurry up this system is so slow. Shit come on will you guys Jesus he's getting away that son of a bitch salvaging stealing hurry up with this transfer I will show him. Get my ship ya my Domi its here bastard your so dead
...Intercom off - okay and he's gone.
Well its obvious he wasn't too happy....
No Mrs Ford hopefully he didn't lose too much money and his ship was insured. Of course we will never know. But as they say “Don't Fly what you can't afford to replace.”
Who says that?
Veteran Capsuleer's have that saying Lui. The new Capsuleer's have yet to learn it.
So... so far we have seen the insertion area which is part of the cloning section and the transfer area which is also main storage. This section is upgrades its quite small in comparison. When a Capsuleer decides to upgrade their clone the pod is brought over here given the necessary upgrades and returned back to storage/transfer det.....
“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....”
Holy crap what was that?
That Mrs Ford is the next section Termination/Extraction. Currently once a Capsuleer is inserted into the pod there is no way of getting them out. Some Capsuleer's volunteer for termination while others are forced into it. There are many reasons for terminating a Capsuleer but only the Capsuleer's know what they are. The process however is the same and it is very very painful. The insertion is relatively painless as are the upgrades and transfers. The extraction of Capsuleer's has however proven more difficult and normally results in their death or termination. We hope to one day be able to extract them without killing them but the solution proves most elusive.
Why is that?
Well Lui when the Capsuleer's are in their pods they are altered in several ways. Their perspective and how they view their surroundings is different. Their bodies atrophy due to lack of movement and sitting in one place for such a long period. Their eyes hurt from not blinking and staring into nothingness, the sensors plug right into their visual cortex's. They don't actually move around like normal people. An autopilot system is inserted into their brains so they think of a place to go and off they go.
Why Capsuleer's and not Captains on ships?
Ahh good question Ron.
So quick history lesson. In the past according to records that is exactly what we did. But it was found that many people would die before getting to their escape pods. You see they couldn't fight and control the ship from the pods but they couldn't run from the bridge fast enough get into the pod before it was to late. Many ships were lost with pods intact. With automated systems installed there was more time to get to the pods but that meant the captain wasn't able to make any last minute decisions in governing the ship. Some times the ship would survive and the escape pods returned only to get blown up, or poor timing, too much damage and the ship blew up, or the ship was captured intact with no crew on board.
Lots of problems you see. But then some technological break through happened. Automated systems were setup and there you have it an escape pod was built from which the entire ship could be controlled, hence pods. Unfortunately as was discovered by the first few. Getting out of the pod proved more difficult than getting in.
How do they die I mean the Capsuleer's. You said termination was painful and extraction difficult. Can you explain.
Yes Mary. The extraction process involves very high doses of pain reduction medications and a cooling of the brain functions. Once stabilized the Capsuleer is cut out of the pod and attempts to reactivate body functions such as breathing and heart rate are attempted. However even in their heavily sedated state the act of starting their breathing or heart causes a cascade effect.
Brain scans of the event show a build up of brain activity which becomes unstoppable. The brain over reacts and uses up the oxygen faster than can be supplied while producing to many toxins than can be removed and also puts out too much heat. The brain destroys itself in minutes if not seconds. This usually brings the Capsuleer out of their induced coma long enough for one last inhalation followed by a ghastly scream.
We have yet to solve the problem. But when we do it is believed body functions can be restored quickly due to booster shots similar to those given our military personnel. Until then well all terminations end up at the bio mass storage facility. Which in turn is used to generate new pods and clones.
So our next stop is out these doors, into this elevator and over to the viewing deck.
Ah so over there is our new recruit Sesan Sebastian.
Intercom on communicate with Mr Sesan....
Hello. Its Doctor Stevenson with some guests do you have time to talk....Hello...Hello...
Uh ya hi Doc. Sorry its taking some getting used to here. They the station people gave me an Altron ship sweet neat. Its kinda weird strange uh I dunno I think where I want to go and then I go. Not like left right up down forward back or any of that. I have a trainer and he's nice teaching me what I need to know. Its kinda boring having to relearn all this new stuff. I am even having trouble just talking to other people that's why the delay in getting to you. But every little bit helps. Okay got to go by the way I have a new name its no longer Sesan Sebastian its Je..........
....Intercom off.
Okay so the reason I cut him off is because we try not to give out personal information about our Capsuleer's to strangers and outside interests. Suffice to say he is getting along just fine. But has a long way to go. Years of training. If he keeps it up he will be flying a Hulk or an Assault ship in just a few months.
So that's the end of this tour over there is you security escort. They will take you to lunch and then the afternoon leg of your tour.
Good bye.
